Body Paragraph #1: the cause of this trend (1) limited careers prospects compared to other majors (2) the nature of the subjects -> too demanding + difficult to pursue as a career

Body Paragraph #2:  the problem from this trend  (1) surplus workers in other field + shortage in science field -> affect scientific advancement of a country

Conclusion: fewer career prospects and the characteristics of those subjects are the main reasons for fewer students following science majors. As a result, the downside would emerge consequently in terms of workforce and national development.

In our contemporary society, the governments are concerned that there has been a constant decline in students pursuing science-based subjects after high school in many nations. There are some reasons behind this phenomenon regarding career prospects postgraduate and the nature of the subjects. There is potential damage to a nation when it lacks science workers, which will be discussed in detail in the essay below.

To begin with, there are some fundamental causes that posed this issue. Firstly, it is widely believed that majoring in scientific fields means that students may have limited career opportunities after graduating from university. To elaborate, they may think that apart from being scientists, they would not have a wide range of employment chances to choose from. Moreover, subjects related to science are mostly considered too demanding and difficult for students to pursue as a career in the future. In fact, students would choose other majors such as economics which are usually socially perceived as being easier for them to find a well-paid job in the modern world.

The insufficient number of students choosing to pursue science fields would have adverse ramifications on society. The main issue is that this would create an imbalanced workforce distribution in the future. In other words, a huge number of students specialising in more socially favourable fields could lead to a surplus in those fields while workers in science-based fields are scarce. This would lead to a deterioration in scientific advances, which would cause further pressure on national prosperity. Specifically, the shortage of science-specialised students is synonymous with a shortage of potential scientists and studies in the area of Biology or Technology, the two key motivators which lead to the scientific advancements of a nation.

In conclusion, fewer career prospects and the demanding characteristics of those subjects are the main reasons for fewer students following science majors. As a result, the downside would emerge consequently in terms of workforce and national development.
